A Closer Look at Sun Protection: What Are the Limitations of Current Solutions?

Today, skin cancer prevention relies primarily on two main approaches 👇

☀️ Sunscreen (particularly the UV filters found in sunscreen lotions) to prevent UV rays from reaching skin cells.

🧴 Limiting sun exposure and wearing protective or UV-blocking clothing.

Focus on sunscreen: what are the limitations of current solutions?

❌ Effectiveness: even with a high sun protection factor (SPF), the fact that UV filters do not remain on the skin’s surface means current sunscreens must be reapplied every 2 hours or after physical activity or swimming.

❌ Safety: Sunscreens penetrate the skin and can potentially cause endocrine disruption and systemic toxicity.

❌ Research: Major players in the cosmetics industry devote only about 3% of their revenue to innovation, and the sunscreen sector has seen no real innovation for many years.

Why is a new generation of sunscreen necessary?

Invisible, cumulative damage contributes to the development of skin cancer.

🔎 Faced with these challenges, we are now exploring new biological approaches to develop long-lasting and safe sunscreens.
